Sebastiao Salgado
Sebastian Salgado's images are so striking. That's my first impression going through his gallery, The tonalities and grays and blacks with his images are gorgeous! Especially so in this image of the penguins jumping into the ocean. The foam in the ocean water as well as the glacier in the background is very beautiful. This image of the penguins is also just so crazy because that water look very unsafe for those tiny little penguins. Im concerned for their wellbeing in that treacherous water and scene. After learning more about his preservation efforts of the environment, it makes a lot of sense his landscape images. They are especially phenomenal and excellent because it's his efforts to portray nature as this beautiful, living, breathing thing that we must protect. I love that these images are also not in color, I don't think they need to be. They have so much life considering there is only black, white, and shades of grey. His Landscapes are astounding, referring to the last landscape image. The highlights on the mountains, as well as the way the clouds and sunshine pours creates that depths and beautiful tone. They almost look like heavenly places, they don't even look real. I had a difficult time picking only a few images of people. Every one is so unique and makes you lean in closer to look at them. This second image of the four figures wrapped up, is extremely satisfying to the eye. It's again that rule of thirds and the depth that you see with the different distances of the individuals. That farthest person sticks out and brings your eye to the beautiful mountain and water in the background.
