Ralph Gibson
Ralph Gibson's work gives me so much visual satisfaction because I see a lot of compositional choices that make these images so appealing. There's a lot of framing, leading lines, and rule of thirds in his imagery. I especially enjoy these color images I included in my blog because there is a vintage rich color to them. The waiters jacket in the second image pops so well along with the reflections on the glasses he's holding.
They all have a cinematic documentary style feel to them. His black and white images are especially pretty because there is such a variety of blacks, whites, and grey. It difficult for me to tell these are primarily posed or are snaps from moments within his life.
I think it's fascinating that in a lot of the images I choose there are no faces or eyes in the images. This choice makes you question and wonder what the faces and people attached to the hands and bodies look like. This choice gives them a mysterious feel. Non of the subjects are looking at the camera which makes me lean or towards the idea that these images are candid and from his natural surroundings.
