Landscape Portraiture (Sally Mann)
My favorite collection from Sally Mann is the ones of her family. They feel so intimate and real. The pure faces of the little girls as well as the pretty natural landscapes in the background. Its nostalgic and children running around outside is something I believe we have all experienced and this collection just captures this feel and innocence.
The relaxed expressions of each little girl as well and the hazy softness that all of these images posses is nice. I really like the 2nd image and the last image because of how she composed them. The last image of the man shaving his face and the little girl lounging, I like the additional view you get with the inclusion of the mirror.
All in all I enjoy these the most as a collection, rather than them as individual images. I can just imagine these blown up in an exhibit would be very impactful. They feel authentic and posses this emotional depth. The individual feel comfortable in their surroundings and you can get a sense they exist in these places.
