Man Ray

Looking at these images gives me a wonderful glimpse of culture in the early 20s. Especially after reading how much he influenced and pioneered fashion photography at this time. It's an interesting view at pop culture and the things that were popular and trendy at the time.

I noticed his use of double exposed or the layering look of many of his works. I enjoy this and it makes the images look very interesting compositionally. Makes me think, with film, how much of taking these photos are happy accidents and how much are purposeful decisions. That's the difference when I look at works done on a digital camera versus film cameras, makes me wonder if all these details are intentional. Especially because you cannot go back and look at what you have just taken.

In this first images I enjoy the texture of the woman. She pops out like a 3d image and it's not too distracting from the details on her face.

The fourth image here, I included because I like his creativity in the use of objects. Since this technique was completely new and he was the responsible for the development of the Photogram. He must've experimented with using different objects to create new images. It wasn't until I starting writing about the third image that I really noticed the noses and lips which build the image. I originally just like the shape and shadows within and now enjoy it more after discovering what he used to make them.
