Lee Friedlander

The biggest thing that stands out to me about Lee Friedlander is his use of framing in most all of his images. Obviously he also uses a lot of reflections in his photos, but they are especially interesting to look at because of his use of framing objects within reflections.

There's almost a depth to his images when you can see what's not the picture. In some of them it's like looking at three different images combined together, like one would with a digital camera and photoshop.

In the last image I like a lot his use of framing and the reflection in the chair within the building. You can see the reflection of himself taking the picture and also see the miniature reflection in front of him. The perspectives are super interesting and unique.

I included the image of Lee Friedlander's wife because I really enjoyed the whole collection of images he took of his wife throughout 60 years of being married. They feel intimate and like a documentary of their lives and family. You watch her and his children age and it's very nostalgic. Lots of the images had the years listed below and I enjoyed how their clothing and surroundings represented the times.
