Tina Barney Self/Portrait Photography

I am choosing Tina Barney as my reasearch subject. The first things that stuck out to me about her work is the real life, in the moment feel of all her images. They are so personal and realistic in what that moment feels like. Images like these feel so effortless and candid, I really love that the most about her images. The softness and saturation of colors also is something that I liked about her images. Consistently, they all feel romantic and dreamy and remind me of summer memories growing up. That is definitely summed up in the three images I choose to feature.

After reading more into this one image, I was surprised that it was actually a posed imaged with an intended narrative. Like I mentioned previously, I enjoyed how candid they felt and now realized that a lot of the images I enjoyed actually were intentional.

I loveee the vintage 80s feel that the images give. The sense of nostalgia she captures in her images is so satisfying. What also I found interesting was, a lot of these images were from when she was just beginning to learn how to do color photography and photography in general. A lot of these amazing images were taking without much skill. And they still capture this time capsule feel of the 70s and 80s. I enjoy the overall aesthetic of her images very much.

Her portraits encapsulate the essence of the moment. This pool picture is such a cool angle and perspective of the little girl.
