Self Portraiture Judy Dater

I very Much enjoy this collection of Judy taking self portraits out in nature in what looks like a desert like landscape. I really enjoy overall while looking at her website her black and white portraits. I tend to not be as drawn to black and white images as much as I am drawn to color images. But her images have so much depth and contrast that I really like. Her black and white images remind me of Tin Type images with how much detail and they feel old timey.

In a lot of her images she plays with shadows and light. The black dark parks of her images are so nice because they are balanced out with highlights.

After reading more into her story, I feel as though her images reflect a little bit of her feminism. Or at least now that I am aware that it is something she is passionate about, I feel as though I can see touches of it in her work. Especially this first image and its collection. As I browsed through this collection, It felt freeing and vulnerable. Very simple imagery or her body in nature, in all sorts of spread out gestures. It seemed as though it was a theme in this project.

These images while not self portraits, are so eye-catching and visually satisfying. The Portrait of the woman sitting in the whicker chair is my favorite. She captured her expression and overall natural beauty, this image really reminds me of a tin type style image.
