 Ernst Haas

When determining who in the color and light powerpoint that I would write my blog about, I browsed through the collections of images and came across this first image which I recognized. This is partially why I am writing about him today but after further diving into his works, I enjoy his work for other reasons as well as recognizing the influential people in his works. I recognized this image because it is George Balanchine with the New York City Ballet. As someone who grew up studying classical ballet their whole life even initially going to college for classical ballet, it was interesting and I liked that I could connect to this image that way.

Not only is the image visually interesting to look at but it along with a lot of his portrait work consists of many famous faces. I continued to explore his page full of black and white photography and then venture into his color works. I see now that I am drawn to his monochromatic photographs with these two blue and yellow images. The colors are rich and they both have a completely different feel from each other. The Yellow warm image has a happy, carefree, youthful feel. Very all American feeling as well with the playground in NYC. The blue image also has this calming, maybe sad, and lonesome feel to it. I like that he choose to keep the outer edges rough from the exposed brick.
His works document many influential people and his travels. He does a lot of motion images with burry action. I enjoy a lot of these mid action images because they make beautiful shapes in the image. I enjoy his black and white photographs and I can see he has very many black and white images. The contrast in these specific image is what draws me into his works and makes my eye interested.
